Tomorrow is the festival of Holi. This is the last full moon of this year. The next full moon will be in the next year per the lunar calendar, and this last full moon is celebrated with colors.
Usually people burn all the old things at home on this day. We have already burnt all the past and we are already clean so we will not create more smoke and pollution, so we not burn anything, but we will play Holi with sandal paste and not with the harmful chemical colors. We will play some gentle Holi.

There are different colors associated with our feelings and emotions: anger with red, jealousy with green, vibrancy and happiness with yellow, love with pink, vastness with blue, peace with white, sacrifice with saffron, and knowledge with violet. Each person is a fountain of colors which keep changing.
If your life is like Holi, where each color is seen clearly, then they add charm to your life. Harmony in diversity makes life vibrant, joyful and more colorful.

Like Holi, life should be colorful, not boring. When each color is seen clearly, it is vibrant. When all the colors get mixed, you end up with black. So also in life, we play different roles. Each role and emotion needs to be clearly defined. Emotional confusion creates problems.
When you are a father, you have to play the part of a father. You can't be a father at the office.
When you mix roles in your life, you start making mistakes. Whatever role you play in life, give yourself fully to it. In ignorance, emotions are a bother; in knowledge, the same emotions add color. Tell yourself that you will do justice to all the roles. You can play all the roles: a good spouse, good child, good parent, good citizen. Assume that you have all these qualities in you. Just let them blossom.

Gurudev, I have heard of this thing called Guru Mandala. What is Guru Mandala? Is it good for us sadhaks?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Guru Mandala refers to the several circles (that you have to cross) before you reach the centre. It refers to the many attractions, many temptations, many repulsions and all that which makes you stronger. If you pass all that, you come to the center where you become really strong. Though you are in knowledge, many things come along which pull you in different directions and that is called Guru Mandala.
You know, small things can put you off. Someone comes to do a meditation course and the room is not okay, or the food is not okay for them. If you think that the food is not good and so I am not going to meditate, then you have missed the purpose of coming. Every day, anyway, you are eating. At home you may be used to eating pancakes, but if not having pancakes takes the front seat and you miss out on your meditation, then you are stuck in Guru Mandala.
Similarly, you came for the purpose of meditation and you got stuck in conflict or you are upset with someone, then you have moved away from the goal, and you are caught up in the periphery. This is Guru Mandala.
In life, your aim is to achieve the highest knowledge, but in the process you get stuck with small insignificant things which distract you. These are the aspects of Guru Mandala.

Dear Gurudev, do people who are single have reserved quota on the path of enlightenment? Is enlightenment difficult for a householder?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
No. Enlightenment is the simplest state of consciousness. Uncomplicated thinking and the simplest form of thinking.
Enlightenment is becoming a child again, so it is open to all. You only need de-condition yourself as we have conditioned our mind in so many ways and made life so complicated. Enlightenment is returning back to simplicity, honesty, love and faith that truth will triumph or succeed.

Gurudev, when time is good, everyone is good to you. So are people actually good or is the goodness of time that makes people good around you? I am confused.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
I think you already know the answer.
There are people you have helped day and night and yet they have become your enemies. Haven’t they? How many of you have had this experience? You have not done anything wrong to somebody and yet they have become your enemy. Similarly, you have not done any favor to somebody, yet they have helped you a lot and become best friends with you. Hasn’t this happened?

Getting a friend or enemy happens through some karma. So if your time is good, even an enemy acts like a friend, and if your time is not good, even a friend acts like an enemy.
How can I convert thoughts into actions without inhibitions?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
You are thinking too much, just be spontaneous and actions will just flow. You are anyways doing it all the time. You don’t have to ask this question. If you want to go for a movie, you just follow the thought. If you want to have some snacks, then you sit in the car and drive and go and have your snacks. Every action that you do, there is a thought behind it. If you have done something without thinking, then that has its own consequences.
Sometimes, if you do something without thinking, if you are lucky, it happens to be good. Otherwise, you end up somewhere.

Gurudev, anything which changes is not the truth. Time is also changing constantly. So is time real?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Time is of many different dimensions or layers. Time is the distance between two events, and space is the distance between two objects. This is one definition of time. There is a grand time or Mahakaala and it is the absolute Divine that is never changing.
If you go out from this terrestrial atmosphere to outer space, what will you experience there? There will be no sunrise and no sunset because sunrise and sunset, days, months, years are all limited to this space. But if you go beyond the Milky Way, there time stands still, yet time exists and it is called the Grand Time.
